Hiking - ROCHE-SAINT-SECRET-BÉCONNE - Twists and Turns along the Lez

A loop between farmlands and the Lez river, retracing the lordly history of the villages of Béconne and Roche-Saint-Secret.

Although exposed to the sun, the banks of the Lez and the forested sections offer a refreshing break from the heat. As I walk, I feel as if I'm stepping back into the Middle Ages. • At the start and finish, at point 2, and after point 3: you will cross a main road, be careful!


• After point 4: steep section down to the Lez, followed by an abrupt path through the marls.


• Before and after point 5: be sure to close the fence gates behind you.


• RESPECT THE TRANQUILITY of the area. Avoid shouting and do not use any sound devices (radios, etc.), out of respect for other users and for the peace of the local wildlife, especially during breeding and wintering seasons when animals are much more vulnerable. 


• Avoid picking wild plants: some of them are protected species.


• The path passes near cultivated land which is private property. Please do not pick anything from the fields (lavender, fruit, etc.).


• Avoid hiking in the riverbed. Walking in the water can disturb aquatic species and life (fish, dragonflies, crustaceans). It is preferable to walk on the riverbanks.


• Part of the route is very exposed to the sun. Bring the necessary gear (water, hat, sun cream, etc.) for hot summer days. It is best to start early in the morning to avoid the hottest part of the day.


• FIRE RISK. Fire is the enemy of the forest... and the hiker! Do not smoke or light fires in the forest; it is forbidden in any season! And in summer, before setting out, check the access conditions and regulations for forest areas.
