Hiking - Rougon - Chasteuil + Bus
The Suech Plateau, this stony expanse that feels like a vast, silent breath amid the surrounding mountains, will make you feel as if you're in a faraway land.
Perched at an altitude of over 1,200 m and overlooking the village of Rougon, the Suech Plateau is a unique site, in stark contrast to the Blanc-Martel trail and the Point Sublime viewpoint located just 400 m below. Here you will discover pastoralism, old dry-stone sheepfolds, panoramic views of the Castellane and Grand Canyon areas, and you might even spot the Griffon Vulture of the Verdon Gorges in the sky.
This is a one-way hike with a drop-off and return by bus on the Riez-Castellane line, operated by the Sud region. Avoid the intense summer heat; set off early. Bring: 3L of water per person, a hat, and hiking boots. Be mindful of the livestock guardian dogs on the plateau; read "if I meet a Patou" below.
