Hiking - SAINT-ÉTIENNE-DU-GRÈS - From the Cabane du Garde to Notre-Dame du Château
The Cabane du Garde and the Notre-Dame du Château chapel, in the heart of the pine forest, offer an intimate viewpoint over the Alpilles.
From the deep valleys where bulls graze to the promontory where the Notre-Dame du Château chapel is perched, the Grès forest is full of hidden treasures. Amidst the terrain dominated by the pine forest, pastures and crops are set deep within the limestone folds. While the Aleppo Pine reigns supreme here, the gullies of Traversières and Almeran bring a pleasant coolness that allows more surprising plant communities to establish themselves.
- At point 1: avoid the cattle grid leading to the vineyards (private property).
- At point 3: be careful of slippery sections on the rocks during the ascent to the top of the promontory.
- At point 5: the section near the road is hazardous due to traffic, so please keep to the verge.
- FIRE RISK: Fire is the enemy of the forest… and the hiker! Do not smoke or light fires in the forest; it is forbidden year-round! And in summer, before setting out, check the access conditions and regulations for forested areas.
