Hiking - SAINT-ÉTIENNE-LES-ORGUES - Lure Crests via Pré de Fau

Wild nature and magnificent panoramas from the crests of the Montagne de Lure.

“This family-friendly hike encapsulates the very best of what Montagne de Lure has to offer: from summit meadows with panoramic views of the Alps and the peaks of Provence, to forests of beech, fir, and conifers. And, to name just a few, you might encounter remarkable, iconic species such as the Black Grouse, the Ortolan Bunting, the Golden Eagle, and the very rare and elusive Orsini's Viper... Be vigilant and show absolute respect!” Nans Baïsset, Biodiversity Project Manager and Natura 2000 facilitator for Montagne de Lure.

  • Although the total distance (7.7 km) and positive elevation gain (+345 m) of this route are modest and consistent with an EASY difficulty rating, the slope and stony surface of some trail sections require good footwear and a minimum of physical effort. Lure is a real mountain!

  • At points 2 and 7: be careful of traffic when crossing the road.

  • CAUTION: PASTORAL AREA from early June to late July: if livestock guardian dogs approach you, do not pet or threaten them. Stop, then wait patiently for them to "check you out" before calmly continuing on your way, giving the flock as wide a berth as possible. It is best not to bring your dog; if you do, keep it on a tight leash. As a reminder, review the correct procedures for encountering livestock guardian dogs.

  • FIRE RISK: Fire is the enemy of the forest… and the hiker! Do not smoke or light fires in the forest; it is forbidden year-round! And in summer, before setting out, check the access conditions and regulations for forested areas.
