Hiking - Sentier des Châteaux

This hike takes you on a journey to discover the lovely villages of the Châtillonais region. Sharing a section with the GR2 trail, this route follows the Seine valley, where the river is just a small, calm, and peaceful stream—a far cry from the great river that flows through the capital...
The lovely white paths through cool valleys are ideal for spotting the national park's wildlife: foxes, roe deer, and birds are abundant. The banks of the Seine are especially good for observing dragonflies, amphibians, and beautiful birds.
Starting from Brémur-et-Vaurois, along the Seine.

  1. Turn right onto the D101, cross the bridge over the Seine and continue left towards Aisey-sur-Seine.

  2. Before the bridge, take the grassy path on the right alongside the Brévon Valley, crossing some streams. Near the "La Chouette" fish farm, go up on the right, then take the first path on the right into the forest and follow it for about 1000m.

  3. On the right, cross the Noin stream and continue for 700m. Rejoin the GR2 trail (red and white markers), follow it to the left, and take the shaded path climbing up between the low stone walls. After 800m, go down on the right to the paved road (Brémur - Origny).

  4. Follow it to the left for 2.4km. Go down the grassy path on the right that leads into the woods.

  5. Leave the GR2 trail and walk alongside the "Bois de la Boissière" woods to the Aigremont farm. Go down the road to Chenecières, then take the white path alongside the Seine valley to Saint-Marc-sur-Seine. On the right, rejoin the GR2.

  6. Cross the bridge and turn immediately right onto the footpath. Reach the D971, cross it, and go up the path opposite towards the church, then continue straight.

  7. At the signposted intersection, turn right for the alternative route to Semond or continue straight on the main circuit. Turn left onto the path climbing through meadows and woods. When you reach the white path, follow it to the right for 940m.

  8. Where the alternative route rejoins, walk alongside the woods, continue on the white path for 400m, then turn left to reach the copse of trees. Continue right to the paved road.

  9. Turn left onto the village's main street, towards Brémur-et-Vaurois.

  10. On the left, there is a possible link to the Chemin d'Aisey via the white path towards the old Semond station. The main circuit continues to the right on the D101. It is best to walk on the wide verges for 1300m. Take the wooded paths that cut across the bends, then turn right onto the path that leads to the D971 car park.

  11. Cross carefully and take the path opposite, between meadows and woods, to the old tile factory. Follow the path winding at the foot of the Vaurois cliff to return to the starting point.
