Walking - Sentier Nature et Souvenirs de Montsapey: Immersion into a Bygone Era
Accessible to all, this discovery trail invites you to explore an authentic mountain heritage, revealing the customs and traditions of Montsapey's inhabitants.
Do you know what an 'arbé' was used for? This small Savoyard 'mazot' was inhabited by women and children who, during the warmer months, led the livestock up to the alpine pastures to graze. At an altitude of 1000 meters, amidst alpine pastures and beech forests, the trail's various informational panels will shed light on the daily lives of the village inhabitants. An interesting historical journey to better understand the mountain of today.
Pass through Montsapey village and continue to the hamlet of Tioulevé (or Lieulevé on older signs), which is a few kilometers further on. The trail starts from the hamlet's car park.
Opposite the Relai du Lac Noir, the path, indicated by a directional post, forks diagonally to the right of the hotel-restaurant.
The trail initially follows the Lac Noir circuit, marked by yellow blazes. At the top of the ascent, by the post, it leaves the Lac Noir path and turns sharply left.
It continues horizontally (pasture then beech forest). Upon exiting the beech forest, the route descends onto a track, rejoining the descent of the Lac Noir circuit, and reaches Tioulevé to the left of the restaurant.
