The construction in the 7th century of the Abbey Church Saints Peter and Paul allowed the birth and prosperity of Wissembourg. To defend itself, the city was surrounded by fortifications and 4 castles. If only one of the four castles remains, the castle St Paul, north of the city in the vineyard, the abbey and the fortifications are still visible around the historic city.
