Hiking - Tour du Mont Pourri: Trekking around Vanoise's 2nd Highest Peak

A 4-day trek full of contrasts: you journey from the most modern ski resorts to the wildest protected areas.

PLEASE NOTE: TURIA REFUGE IS COMPLETELY CLOSED (no water, no toilets, no bivouac allowed, no emergency shelter or common room for self-catering) from MAY 2025 to JULY 2026 for renovations.

For water points between Refuge de la Martin and Refuge du Mont Pourri:
- at the Chantel car park, in La Gurraz, which you pass before the ascent towards Turia. The tap is located next to the picnic tables
- in the stream after Refuge de Turia (towards Les Arcs), be equipped with filter bottles or purification tablets.
- in Arcs 2000, below the tourist office, there are toilets and a water point.

An essential hike around the magnetic Mont Pourri, which culminates at 3779 m altitude. The trek offers a variety of majestic landscapes, including grassy valleys, traditional hamlets, and hanging glaciers. The trail crosses the Col de la Sachette, gateway to the alpine meadows of the Sache Valley, where torrents and natural lakes intersperse.

Possible variations include:

  • Starting from or stopping at Refuge de Rosuel
  • Starting from La Gurraz, in the commune of Villaroger
  • Starting from Tignes
  • And by extending your tour via Refuge d'Entre le Lac or via Refuge du Col du Palet
Enjoy creating your tailor-made tour!

Trail Conditions : To best avoid trails with late-season snow, it is preferable to schedule this hike between early July and mid-October. Beware of stream crossings, which can be tricky during snowmelt periods, and, if possible, prioritize crossing them in the morning. Refer to our suggestions in the description to bypass it.

Equipment : Early in the season, you risk traversing snowfields. In addition to all necessary mountain safety equipment, we advise you to bring one pair of poles per person and at least 1 ice axe.

Huts and Reservations : Within the heart of the National Park, bivouacking is only permitted in the immediate vicinity of certain huts.
For cozier overnight stays, you can settle into the following accommodations, which correspond to the end points of the tour stages:

1st night: Refuge du Mont Pourri
2nd night: Refuge d'Entre-le-Lac
3rd night: Refuge de la Martin
4th night: Refuge de Turia

We advise you to book your accommodations and your packed lunches in advance, as some huts can quickly become full during peak tourist seasons.
