Hiking - Les Chapieux to Col du Petit Saint Bernard Traverse (GTT 2)

A stage of the Grand Tour de Tarentaise through the valley via Préfumet.

Descend into the valley before climbing back up towards the Col du Petit-Saint-Bernard.

From Les Chapieux, follow the road down towards Bourg-Saint-Maurice to the locality of "Crêt Bettex". Continue to the first hairpin bend (elevation 1368) and take the path on the left, known as the "Chemin du facteur", to reach the hamlet of Préfumet. Then follow the Tour de Haute Tarentaise trail that goes to Mont-d'en-Haut (1623m). At the junction at elevation 1522, take the dirt track that contours along the hillside to reach the intersection with the mountain pasture road, from where you continue to the first hairpin bend. 

You will then find a path that climbs up the right bank of the small valley and leads to the Petit-Saint-Bernard hospice, which is clearly visible as you enter the pass.

Your route then rejoins the Grand Tour de Tarentaise at stage 6.
