Trailence

Walking - VAL BUËCH-MÉOUGE - Le Banc du Bouc

To fully appreciate the Méouge gorges, this trail takes you from the riverbank up to the Banc de Bouc viewpoint.

"In the morning, before the swimmers arrive, I love hiking this trail to gain some elevation and discover the hidden, lesser-known side of this picture-postcard landscape! While remaining fairly accessible, this route, which can be dizzying at times, lets you see the gorges from different angles and appreciate the natural richness of this Natura 2000 site." Xavier Mordefroid, Mountain Guide.

  • Parking is prohibited in the gorges at certain times of the year.

  • RESPECT THE PEACE AND QUIET of the area: avoid shouting and do not use any sound devices (radios, etc.), out of respect for other users and for the local wildlife, especially during breeding and wintering seasons when animals are much more vulnerable.

  • Avoid picking wild plants: some of them are protected species.

  • Avoid hiking in the riverbed. Trampling can disturb the local species and aquatic life (fish, dragonflies, crustaceans). Please walk on the riverbanks instead.

  • Part of the route is very exposed to the sun, so be sure to bring the necessary gear (water, a hat, sunscreen, etc.) on hot summer days. An early morning start is recommended to avoid the hottest part of the day.

  • FIRE RISK. Fire is the enemy of the forest… and the hiker! Do not smoke or light fires in the forest; it is forbidden year-round! During the summer season, before setting out, check the current access conditions and regulations for forested areas.
