Walking - VIENS - The Footprint Slab

A short and very easy walk, featuring one of the most surprising geosites in the Luberon.

"What a strange surprise for my first steps in the Luberon Geological Nature Reserve; I found myself plunged 30 million years into the past thanks to the footprint slab, among primitive rhinoceroses! The rest of the walk through wooded areas and lavandin fields was also an opportunity to glimpse the many treasures the Luberon has to offer." Axelle Baumard, intern for the "Chemins des Parcs" Master's programme at the Luberon Regional Natural Park.

  • LISTED SITE OF THE VIENS SLAB: I will enter the protected site of the mammal footprint slab with respect. I will leave rocks, minerals, and footprints in place, and thus preserve this geological heritage.

  • CAUTION: PASTORAL AREA on the trail, particularly at the start and around the Col des Quatre Chemins. If I encounter livestock guardian dogs, I will not pet or threaten them. I will stop, wait patiently for them to 'check me out', then calmly resume my walk, giving the flock as wide a berth as possible. It is best not to bring my dog; if I do, I will keep it on a leash.
